I usually don’t upload rough mixes but I’m going to break my rule and do so tonight because once again, I’m giving you all the opportunity to witness the making of something big with me…oorrr you can all hop on the bandwagon later when everyone else does and I’m saying ‘I told you so.’…again. (IE Budden, Drake, Cole.)
Ever since I called out Maryland a couple years ago on youtube for their atrocious taste in hip hop, one of the most popular questions I’m constantly being asked is “Who is the best artist in the DMV?” and my answer is consistantly erratic and indecisive. I’ve always aimlessly threw out names like Kendall Elijah, Los, Extra, Lyriciss, etc just to avoid saying the obvious, Wale. (Whom as you all know, I’m not particularly fond of.) All of them are niice, but I’ve been lying to ya’ll, the BEST rappers artists in the DMV are…..drumroll please…SUPA and Omega. There, I said it. Bold statement, eh? Well I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t make such gallant declarations. Don’t get mad, just prove me wrong.

I like it. I’m not really a big fan of wale either, i respect him, but nah he’s not on my top. The flow on here is nice, a lyricist. I can’t agree with the best though I havent even heard half of them, Where can I get more tracks for a better listen? You ever been to the beat clash while you were in the dmv? that’s basically as far as my knowledge of dmv rappers go.

Naw, I haven’t been to any beat clash nor have I heard of it. Me calling them the best is merely to stir up enough controversy to get ppl to listen (which I’m known to do) but of course, you have to have a solid body of work to even be considered. They’ll get there though, I promise ;]

Omega sounds and flows like tupac, not as meaningful in his lyrics tho. But thats just from listening to these two songs. SUPA is dope, hands down. Wale is better though

Well you know I am a Wale supporter and what not and I am always trying to convince you and I will lol….. EVENTUALLY anyway DMV to me we have so many artist and each or so different in there own way. But to me with you clashing with people in DMV and there hip hop selection I also said you only met a small amount of people. We are area i think that no artist really is the same in delivery to sound besides Wale the big name of the DMV we have artist like X.O , Phil Ade, you named Lyriciss and you know I have many friends who also spit themselves but I did rock with the track played above

There are DMV artists I fuck with, I made that video a llonnng time ago – dannng. Ya’ll gonna hold it against me forever?!
I don’t hate Wale, he’s not terrible and he has innuendos for days but his voice just doesn’t intrigue me enough to listen to him more than once. He’s just not for me.

I think the real question is: will any of these people become known outside of their local fanbase and have an impact on the overall hip hop scene? The answer would be no. They are all terrible.

I can’t listen to Omega…His enunciation throws me off…Too mush-mouth-ish…Supa has a simplistic rhyme scheme from what I’ve heard…That’s a pet peeve of mine…These songs bored me a bit…They’re okay I guess

i think they’re pretty dope, and you should put me onto more of their stuff ! i haven’t really heard a lot of DMV dudes though outside of Lyriciss, Wale, and Los, a bit of X.O…. i dunno if id call these dudes the BEST (but i know your using bombast for the sake of attention) – but with some polish, they’d definitely be some dudes to be on the lookout for, easily….

…And if you wanna stay a Los fan…Don’t follow him on Twitter lol. His name is something like “Swagga Boi Los” on there. I think that’s reason enough to stay away.

really. what good is beeing better than mainstream artists if no one outside of the local area here’s you? But at the same time ppl go mainstream and become commercial (drake) and that’s not a shot at him cuz i love him, but it is what it is

The first guy is cool, I feel like his delivery detracts from what he’s saying because all I was hearing was words offbeat and him taking breaths. The second song was pretty nice though, they just don’t make me go, “omg, let me replay this.”
And as far as DMV artists, my knowledge isn’t too deep on them … but Wale is one of my favorite artists period. I’ve been listening to him since Paint A Picture, so I guess that’s why.
As far as others, I really only know about Lyriciss and Pro. But like Y2DRE said, are any of these people capable of being known outside of their local clubs?

Oh, and as I’m writing this, i’m listening to the fourth song, dude is NICE. I think he (SUPA) has more potential than the first cat. I actually want to go back and listen to that again.

They’re actually pretty decent. My personal opinions on the best in the area, as masters of their flows, voices, and lyricism are Pro’Verb, Muggsy Malone, RAtheMC, AP The Prince, K-Beta, Chris Barz, KT & Phil Ade (this is without naming the older, seasoned veteran emcees…it’d take forever to list all of them as dope as they are). I’ve worked with most of them also, and every single one of them made me work that much harder on my verses. When you feel pressure, you know you’re working with someone dope lol. Much respect to you, Alexis, for giving them dudes a platform to get heard though. Very dope.

ok, so im not from the dmv so im not to familiar with the artists either but i do fxcks with Lyriciss. the first track the beat is DOPE! i feel like the dude def has potential, i like the flow, its different in a sort of way.BUT , like JF said, im feelin this dude SUPA! also King Tut, the forth track is my favorite right now, idk if its because of the beat or the lyrics.. he said “see i brainstorm the blueprint, something like jayz!!” uggghhh why he did that? lol & i fxcks with the hook! shit is fire, i can admit that i just got put on, now about wale, i like his music, not like a hugeeee fan ut hes nice to me, but i ike this new music right here
