Download S.U.P.A. – The Expressionist.
I really love this kid’s mixtape because he brings me back to that old school 90′s hip hop feel. When hip hop was wildly diverse and often directionless, in the best sense of both words. I don’t think he intentionally made it have that vibe to it, but it does and it’s nostalgic and refreshing at the same time. Plus you all know how I feel about the 90′s. It doesn’t matter what category you look at; the 90′s were superior to the 00′s in every conceivable way. From entertainment to politics, from fashion to slang, there’s just no comparison. But especially music and more specifically, hip hop. I’m not sure if it’s ever going to get back to what it was. S.U.P.A. says it’s because they didn’t have a blueprint … hmm.. I might have to agree with that. What do you all think?
Anyway, back to the mixtape…it’s really good and I know you all are confident enough in my taste in music to trust that I’d never steer you wrong. I haven’t cosigned an artist yet that hasn’t turned out to be great. So download it now just so you can be able to say “I been up on this” when everyone else catches on ;] Let me know what you all think.
PS – Happy Earth Day ! Another excuse to listen to an epic MJ song/video. Lol. No but seriously, you all know how much I love the earth so take care of my baby <3

S.U.P.A. drags alotta words out and mumbles a bit…. Lyrics were cool tho… His singing was outta place on ‘Each & Every Turn’. It seems like the notes he hit on the hook didn’t mesh with ANY part of the instrumental. Nothing really stood out to me. No lines/verses/hooks/songs that made me say “wow” or “damn”.There were a lot of wack lines surrounded by unexpected vocabulary (ie: Crash like computer). His rhyme scheme is also more simplistic than I expected. He basically sticks to the two-syllable rhyme scheme throughout the tape. He is by no means “horrible”, but his delivery/flow just killed it for me.

I think it was better because it was harder to get into the industry and you had to prove yourself more. I feel like anyone with a computer and a mic can get on now. It shouldn’t be that way, I’m glad recording has become easier but it should be taken seriously… I’m not really a Big Sean fan anymore but i’ll check it out.

Okay, so after sitting here and listening to the tape completely through, non-stop, here’s my opinion. Dude can definitely rhyme, aside from the previously mentioned random super wack one-liner moments (it’s ok, we all have those moments lol). He needs to work on sharpening his flow up. You can hear it clearly at some points where he ends up completely off beat, then scrambles to get back on. NEVER rush the words after dragging on a previous bar too long…if you’re going to speed up the flow, speed it up clean…when you rush it, it just sounds messy. That’s what makes studios so great…you can do another take and make sure it comes out perfect lol. Other than that, just have a little more emotion behind the rhymin’. Sometimes, it just sounds like you’re reading. You gotta keep the ear excited. There’s wack rapppers literally living off their delivery cuz it’s memorable and full of SOME type of emotion. For a first true listen to this dude, it’s a good intro and he has LOTS of potential. From here, it’s just polishing up the raw talent. Oh…and more SONGS. The more actual songs you make, people get a better feel of what kind of actual artist you are.
Peace & Hip-Hop

He’s incredible, there’s room for improvement, as always in the beginning but there’s no denying that he’s a great lyricist.
You’re a marketing genuis.

well, for ONE thing…. he coulda TOTALLY left ‘Creep’ off of the tape…. i had to listen 3-4 times before getting the actual message he was trying to convey because the flow (or lack thereof) distracted me from hearing WHAT he was saying over HOW he said it…..
Something About Us probably is my favorite after two full listens – wish it had been longer though…. and i really liked the poem, Black Mans Assurance….
now, as far as the overall tape itself…. i liked it, can definitely get space on my BB….. i think he suffers sometimes too much from the filler lines/weak punchlines, but i think that comes with experience, learning HOW to make every line count…. dude still suffers w/his breath control, like he did when u first had me listen to him ages ago…. he’ll drag a bar too long, then have to speed up/’choppy’ words in the next bar to catch up, then you can hear him catching his breath the next bar or in-between; but again, one of those things you learn with experience – you have to learn whether you want to slow down or pick up the pace flow-wise, and stick with it, then learn how to fit your words within the flow you choose….
positives though, this tape felt real disjointed to me (i know what you’re thinking – this is a positive?!?!) …. to me it is…. it feels and sounds like a MIXtape, not someone trying to put together an album, i prefer that sometimes…. the light interludes and the poem only further that…. dude has a gift as far as his depth, his words dont tend to be extra superficial, which is refreshing to the ears…. i kinda wonder if he’d listened to Lupe’s ‘Ignorant Shit’ freestyle recently before doing his, cuz it kinda mirrors it, but doesnt MIMIC it,, was done pretty well…. again, overall the tape was well put together, good blending of a couple different genres and styles of music…..

Lol, Nicolette, that question has been asked so many times by anons on my formspring (people are so nosey!) but my answer is always the same; if I had a boyfriend, I’d keep that part of my life private.
But yes, I know him personally…and he’s cool, I guess. I don’t have any pics of him, sorry.

Lol, I noticed. Idk why everyone is so concerned w/ who I might be with; it doesn’t directly affect any of your lives unless it’s your man. I don’t even know why it’s assumed that I’m dating ANYONE.
